What is tiramisu?

Tiramisu is a cold dessert in layers, usually prepared with coffee and liqueur. Some varieties include chocolate or fruit. Likewise, there are some recipes that use cookies or lady fingers dipped in espresso.

This dessert was invented in Venice, Italy, in the 1950s. The name comes from the Italian word ” tira mi su “, which can be loosely translated to “lift me up” – this is of course where coffee and sugar come into the picture.

Tiramisu sprinkled with cocoa powder

Although this recipe was not originally made with liqueur, you should still try to add something. This will make it taste better when combined with coffee.

Furthermore, you should add some mascarpone (mild and creamy Italian cheese), which is a traditional ingredient in tiramisu today. You can also add other ingredients if you like.

  • Gradually add the liqueur so that it integrates into the mixture.
  • Finally, remove the bowl from the heat and whip a little more before setting it aside.
  • Cover the mixture with cling film.

2. Preparation of the tiramisu

  • Start by mixing the cheese with the cream you just prepared until you get a fluffy mixture.
  • Whisk the egg whites, and add salt and some icing sugar while whisking.

  • Find a plate or dish and place several layers of lady fingers, coffee and cream until you run out of ingredients.
